Little Steps to Big Change

2008 has begun and lots of people have new year’s resolutions that they know will be history within a few weeks or even days. Others, like my fabulous twitter budz, are kicking off the year with a bang, cooperatively encouraing each other to workout for 25 days in January with the Twitter PT Challenge.

What am I doing? I’m taking small bites out of a big theme: Take Better Care of Myself. The idea is to pick off small, achievable goals that add together to support the bigger theme. Each individually is small so that I’m less likely to throw in the towel because I feel I’ve already failed or I’m not going to be able to do it (such as can’t squeeze in a gym workout every day).

  • Do at least 5 minutes of yoga a day while out of town
  • Walk the dog at least 30 minutes a day while in town
  • Drink more water
  • Drink fewer sugared beverages
  • Eat dessert once a week or less
  • Floss teeth daily

That’s the full list. Simple and straightforward. It might not sound like much but from nothing to something consistent will make a big difference. And since I’m building to a theme, I can also feel good about anything else I do that amounts to Taking Better Care of Myself. Watch this space for my weekly review on how I’m doing. First one tomorrow.
